Twitter Employees Are Live-Tweeting Company's Layoffs Under Elon Musk
Twitter's employees are taking to Twitter to share how they're being laid off and how the process makes them feel
When Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion, he set in motion a series of changes that will have a long-term impact on how Twitter operates. For Musk, the priority right now is making Twitter profitable by lowering their dependence on advertisements for revenue.
As part of this measure, Musk plans to introduce a $8 monthly fee for verification (perhaps as part of the Twitter Blue subscription). Another change under Elon Musk has been a slew of layoffs, including former CEO Parag Agrawal who took the reins from Twitter founder Jack Dorsey just last November.
Elon Musk is overseeing mass layoffs in the company, according to an unsigned internal memo that was seen by The Verge. Turns out, as of Friday evening, many employees have already been locked out of their work credentials.
Many of them have taken to Twitter to share their displeasure, or just general state of mind after realising that they're probably fired. Meanwhile, Bloomberg reports that Twitter is being sued for laying off people without giving a 60-day notice.

Tweeps are just hanging out in Slack saying nice things to each other until their access is cut off. I¡¯ve never seen anything like it.

My watch at Twitter has come to an end. To those around me who helped make Twitter better, thank you. You were a constant inspiration for me to be the best I can be. It¡¯s been a journey of change, chaos, ups & downs, each one of them special and I wouldn¡¯t trade it for the world

I feel a bit like someone is burning my old house down. It was a good house filled with love & care & maybe it wasn¡¯t perfect, but the occupants aren¡¯t disposable. They¡¯re not to be mocked & trivialized in some performative dumpster fire. They are good people who deserve respect.

A lot of Twitter employees are claiming the same - that they were logged out of their accounts abruptly
Looks like I¡¯m unemployed y¡¯all. Just got remotely logged out of my work laptop and removed from Slack. #OneTeam forever. Loved you all so much.
