A heartwarming video filmed in Tamil Nadu that recently surfaced online shows a forest official holding an umbrella to protect a sleeping baby elephant from the sun during a rescue mission.

In the now-viral clip, a group of forest officials can be seen taking care of a baby elephant. One of the officials can be seen holding an umbrella over the sleeping baby jumbo during their efforts to unite it with its mother.

Forest officials rescue elephant calf stuck in the Nilgiris

Last week, a two-month-old elephant calf was rescued by the forest department after it was swept away by flood waters in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu.

The district had been witnessing incessant rains, resulting in increased water in Sigurhalla river. Amid this, an elephant calf got separated from its herd as it was washed up by the river.

Local residents immediately informed the forest department and rushed to the spot. Fortunately, the animal managed to make its way onto the banks of the river, before it was found by forest department staff. Officials checked on the health of the calf and were then seen walking it to safety. They also tied a rope around the baby, making sure that the baby wouldn¡¯t get accustomed to human scent or touch.

Earlier, a video went viral showing a mama elephant saving her baby from drowning. The clip shows an elephant herd crossing a river to go into the forest, and a mother stops in her tracks to help her baby who is struggling in the water.

The baby elephant can be seen wobbling due to the strong current of the water and is almost carried away by it. The mama elephant immediately stops and goes after her calf and catches its trunk. Both the mother and her baby exit the river and move into the forest where the rest of the herd is waiting for them. The video was shared by Indian Forest Service officer Parween Kaswan.
