Chef Shares Brilliant Hack To Cook The Perfect Hard-boiled Egg So That The Shell Slips Off
A chef who has built a following of more than 1.8 million users on TikTok has shared how to cook hard-boiled eggs so that you don't have to spend ages peeling the shell.
This chef has shared a genius hack to get the perfect hard-boiled eggs and the shells even come off clean. Now, here are several ways to cook your eggs. You can get it poached, you can make an omelette, sunny side up or even scrambled eggs. But if it's hard-boiled eggs you like, this tip is not to be missed.
Generally peeling off the shell from the boiled egg is a tiring and tasking job. We all hate it. But this chef's method of taking off the shell is quite easy and will be an instant hit.
Chef Kathleen goes by the Instagram handle name @kat_can_cook. She demonstrated her method of making the perfect boiled eggs.
For this peeling egg hack, the trick is to use steam, rather than water. She starts by filling a pot with cold water before adding a metal steaming basket. Kathleen placed her eggs in a steamer basket above water, inside a covered cooking pot on the hob.
¡®The hot steam makes the egg white proteins contract, pulling away from the shell membrane,¡¯ she wrote.
The chef-cum-food blogger leaves those eggs in there for 12-14 minutes, after which, she said, the shell slides right off. She swears by the steaming, as she hasn¡¯t boiled an egg in 10 years.
One person said: "Agree! Plus it saves energy and is much more precise because there¡¯s no temperature drop when eggs are put in."
Another wrote: "Yes! 12 min on high and the easiest peel ever." A third commented: "Wait why did I never try this before!!???"
She also suggested that one needs to experiment with timings if you prefer runny eggs over hard-boiled ones. Additionally, you need to use cold water for those runny eggs.
According to WikiHow, there's a reason why cold water should be used ¡®eggs peel easily when they are cold because the whites of the eggs constrict away from the shell.¡¯
This technique includes adding room-temperature boiled eggs into cold water before refrigerating them for one hour before peeling them. However, putting them inside the fridge isn't a necessity.
So, if you're someone who is fed up with those broken boiled eggs, you know what to do to make your mornings cheerful.
