The fat-shaming statement by Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed on India cricket captain Rohit Sharma has taken social media by storm. Fans can't keep calm, and the outrage is all over the place.
After drawing flak on Monday, the BCCI secretary, Devajit Saika, slammed Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed for questioning Rohit Sharma's captaincy credentials and fitness levels.
BCCI, in their statement, stated that it was very unfortunate for a responsible person to pass such an inconsequential comment in the middle of the national team's Champions Trophy campaign.

India has reached the semifinals of the ICC Champions Trophy and plays Australia after beating New Zealand. The semifinals are going to take place in Dubai on Tuesday.
On the other hand, amid the Shama Mohamed outrage, Saikia told PTI, "All the players are performing to their highest potential, and results are visible. I hope individuals shall desist from making such derogatory statements for personal publicity's sake at the cost of national interest."
As soon as the post surfaced on social media, the Congress spokesperson received major backlash over calling the India captain "overweight." Following this, she was asked to take down the posts on X (formerly called Twitter).
Dr. Shama Mohammed, National Spokesperson of the Indian National Congress, made certain remarks about a cricketing legend that do not reflect the party's position.

Shama Mohamed defends her comments
Meanwhile, after all this, Mohamed defended the statements she made in a 'generic manner'. She said that she did not mean to body-shame Rohit Sharma but was commenting on his fitness.
According to her, she believes that a sportsperson should be fit, and Rohit Sharma is a bit overweight; hence she tweeted about the same. "I have been attacked for no reason," she told news agency ANI.

Netizens bash Shama Mohamed for her comments
Fans and netizens slam Shama Mohamed for her fat-shaming comments on Rohit Sharma. One wrote that it seems Shama Mohamed¡¯s criticism of Rohit Sharma stems more from her disappointment over Pakistan and Bangladesh¡¯s elimination from the Champions Trophy 2025 than anything else.
"India, led by Rohit, handed both teams decisive defeats¡ªPakistan by 6 wickets and Bangladesh by 6 wickets in the group stage¡ªknocking them out of the tournament. Her remarks about Rohit¡¯s fitness and captaincy could be a reflection of that frustration, especially given his key role in orchestrating those victories and leading India to the semi-finals. The sting of seeing her favored teams exit early might just be the real fuel behind her sharp words."

"Shama Mohamed talking about fitness while her husband looks like he hasn¡¯t seen a proper meal in years? Man looks like he gets a fistful of food every day. Before fat-shaming others, maybe feed your own family properly first," another mentioned.

A look at Shama Mohamed's statement
The Congress sportsperson's remarks about Rohit Sharma's fitness came after he was dismissed after 15 runs off 17 balls during the India-New Zealand match for the ICC Champions Trophy on Sunday.
In a now-deleted post, she wrote, ¡°Rohit Sharma is fat for a sportsman! Need to lose weight! And of course the most unimpressive Captain India has ever had."
Congress leader Shama Mohamed has quietly deleted both of her posts in which she called Rohit Sharma fat, a mediocre player and India's most unimpressive captain.
