Now, the power couple have been voted the most admired man and woman on the planet. YouGov, a data collection site has been running the coveted poll every year since 2014.
Barack Obama has always been a favourite among the people, in the US as well as other countries. His wife, Michelle Obama, has also been a role model for many young women across the globe.

The 44th US President has ranked number 1 on the list for the first time and has moved Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates into second place.
Obama was the top pick for 22 countries out of 42.

This year's polls have brought out some interesting results.
Third place was filled by China's President Xi Jinping and India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed, with actor Jackie Chan coming in fifth.
Other notable names on the list were Keanu Reeves (10th), Cristiano Ronaldo (8th), Michael B Jordan (13th) and US President Donald Trump (15th).
According to YouGov's website, Bill Gates came second because of the conspiracy theories doing the rounds this year.
'Gates has only slipped one rank, with his fall potentially coming as a result of rumours that he is in some way involved in the spread of COVID-19', the website said.

In the women's category, Michelle Obama maintained her spot as the most admired woman in the world.

Hollywood actor Angelina Jolie came in second followed by Queen Elizabeth II in third place, while Oprah Winfrey dropped two spots from last year's poll and came in fourth.
Other worthy mentions in the women's category are Jennifer Lopez (5th), Emma Watson (6th) and Scarlett Johansson (7th).
YouGov said on its website: 'Entertainers dominate the female list, with 12 of the most admired women being actresses, singers or TV presenters (although some, like Emma Watson and Angelina Jolie, are also notable for their humanitarian work). By contrast, the list of most admired men contains more people from political, business and sporting backgrounds'.
More than 45,000 people from 42 countries and territories participated in the survey, making this year's survey the largest ever.
