Chenab Bridge: Stunning Photos Of The World's Highest Rail Bridge
Indian Railways took social media and shared awe-inspiring images of Chenab Bridge - the world's highest rail bridge. All the photos have a crystal clear view of the bridge peeking through the clouds. It is a sight to behold.
India is behind the world¡¯s many firsts including the world¡¯s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity; the country¡¯s longest rail bridge, Bogibeel in Assam; and now the world¡¯s highest railway arch bridge situated in Kashmir.
The world's highest, the Chenab Rail Bridge which will be the Railways' finest engineering marvel was built at a height of 359 metres. The Chenab rail bridge, connecting two ends of the deck of the world¡¯s highest railway bridge achieved a milestone when the overarch deck of the bridge was completed with a golden joint.
The bridge will provide direct connectivity to the rest of the world with Kashmir valley. The bridge is expected to open by the end of this year.

The 359-metre-high bridge which is being constructed over Chenab river is a part of Indian Railways¡¯ mega plan to connect Kashmir valley with Udhampur known as the Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Line.
Reportedly, the bridge is being touted to be taller than France¡¯s Eiffel Tower which stands at a height of 300 metres. The bridge will have railway stations at both ends and the construction for the same is going on with full force.
The interesting part about the bridge is the steel that is being used in its construction. The steel is blast proof and it is being prepared to withstand any kind of attack. Nearly, 500 locals have been employed in this category through the project, which is expected to boost tourism and development in the valley.
Chenab bridge is arguably the biggest civil-engineering challenge faced by any railway project in India in recent history. Once completed, it will the highest railway arch bridge in the world.
Facts About Chenab Bridge
- As per officials, the bridge can withstand winds up to 260 Kmph and its lifespan will be 120 years.
- Chenab bridge is made up of steel arches and the slopes of the mountains supporting the foundations of the main arch have been stabilised.
- The concrete pillars of this bridge are also designed in a way that it can withstand blasts/explosions. The bridge is designed by consultants from Finland and Germany.
- Chenab bridge will be 1.315 kilometres long. It will have stations at both ends.
- Given the fact that the area is prone to terrorist attacks the Chenab bridge has been designed to be "blast-proof" in consultation with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
- Railways is planning to install sensors on the bridge to check the wind velocity. In case, the wind speed exceeds 90 Kmph, the signal on the railway track will turn red and any train movement will be stopped.
