A customer in China was forced to pay 45,000 yuan (Rs 5.28 lakh) as compensation for overeating food at a buffet and taking leftovers home. The incident took place at a restaurant in Guizhou province, southwest China.
The restaurant manager confirmed to the South China Morning Post that CCTV footage from the restaurant showed the woman visiting five times over two weeks in August of the previous year.
The manager stated that the customer consistently ordered more food than she could finish and secretly put the leftovers into plastic bags under the table and then into her handbag.
SCMP reported that the woman had visited the restaurant more than a dozen times since March of the previous year.

Due to the influencer culture, the owner initially believed this customer might be a competitive eater. But to their surprise, they discovered that most of the food had been discreetly taken away.

The restaurant owner argued they were within their rights to demand payment based on a clear sign displayed at the cashier's desk and on every table. The sign read, "Waste over 100g or takeaway needs to be paid according to the menu pricing," as reported by SCMP.
Despite facing legal threats and incurring additional legal costs of 8,000 yuan (Rs 94,017), the customer eventually had to give in and pay the compensation demanded.
