Different Lenses, Different Perspectives: These Pics Prove How Easily Human Eye Can Be Tricked
Danish photographers photographed people in public spaces using two different lenses-- a wide angle and a telephoto lens-- and creating two different perspectives. Each lens shows us a different view and makes us realise how easily our eyes can be fooled.
There is no denying that reality is subjective. All of us know it. Information, approach and opinions are a few things that determine how we perceive the world. Recently, two Danish photographers decided to test out this theory and came up with a hella brilliant way to share it with the rest of the world.
Given how important social-distancing is today and how people can be quick to react to content they see online, photographers ?lafur Steinar Gestsson and Philip Davali threw things into perspective with their little project in an attempt to help us see things for what they really are.
They photographed people in public spaces using two different lenses--a wide angle and a telephoto lens--and creating two different perspectives.
This is the effect a wide angle lens creates.
And here's the result after using a telephoto lens.
So now you get the basic difference between the two. Each lens shows us a different view and makes us realise how easily our eyes can be fooled if the thing in front of us is presented differently.
The photographs taken from a wide angle are quite similar to what our own eyes see naturally. The wide angle is similar to the way our eyes see.
"It takes wider pictures, and as a photographer, you use it when you are close to what you need to photograph" is what ?lafur Steinar Gestsson explained to a local Danish website. Our iPhones are also in-built with a similar type of camera.
However, on the other hand, the telephoto lens is the long lens which is used to photograph large gatherings like football matches. Simply put, any subject which is far away is photographed by a telephoto lens. Gestsson added, ¡°It gets closer to what you are photographing, and in a way, it pulls the subject together."
The photographer also explained that viewers should be made aware of which lens and equipment was used by the photographers so that they choose the product according to their needs. He said, ¡°If there was a description in the caption of how the image was taken, the editor would have the freedom to choose. Photographers must always keep in mind how we do our job, especially in times of the corona crisis.¡±
