#OnlyInUp: 13 Things That Have Happened In Uttar Pradesh That Are As Bizarre As They Can Get
India¡¯s most populated state, Uttar Pradesh, has a collection of bizarre stories that we can never - and I mean absolutely never - come across anywhere else in the entire world.
No points for guessing, it has a lot to do with the fact that the number of people who reside in the state is unbelievably insane - 199,812,341. Can you even tell how much that is?!
So, of course, putting all the weird stuff that goes down in UP is something we have to do, because where else do you even find such content?
1. Couple marries after dating for two years. Gets divorced in under 12 hours.
In a very weird twist of things, a couple hailing from UP¡¯s Hamirpur district got married to each other after going through a lot of ups and downs. However, even though they had been together for the last two years, their ¡®happily forever¡¯ ended in under 12 hours and they filed for divorce.
2. Man gets challenged to eat 50 eggs for Rs 2,000. Dies after the 42nd egg.
This one is sad yet extremely bizarre! A man from UP¡¯s Jaunpur district got involved in an argument with a friend over how many eggs he can eat and they settled the number at 50 eggs. They bet Rs 2,000 on the same, but the man collapsed after consuming the 42nd egg. The hospital stated ¡®overeating¡¯ as the cause of his death.
3. Man gets challaned for not wearing a helmet... INSIDE A CAR!
Nothing can be more bizarre than the UP police fining a man for driving a car without wearing a helmet. A CAR!
Hailing from Hamirput district, the man received an e-challan on his mobile for the same. The e-challan said that he had been fined by the authorities for not wearing a helmet while driving his four-wheeler vehicle.
4. Villagers mistake a saffron-painted toilet for a temple. Start praying.
If it gets out of hand, religion can make people do extremely unusual things. Just like when the people of Maudaha in Hamirpur district started praying to a public toilet, just because it was painted saffron. Not just this, this misinformed act went on for a whole year.
5. Drunk groom does the naagin dance. Bride refuses to marry him.
Everyone wants to have a presentable life partner and this bride from Mailani area of Lakhimpur Kheri, Bairely, didn¡¯t want to settle. After witnessing her groom doing the naagin dance in a completely inebriated state, she flat out refused to get married to him.
6. Grandfather teaches grandkids "A for alcohol, B for beedi." Makes them drink and smoke.
Children learn what their elders teach them but this grandfather from UP¡¯s Bahadarpur area is teaching his grandchildren all the wrong things - things kids are supposed to be kept away from. In a video that surfaced online last year, the old man was seen giving out beedis and alcohol to minors, and telling them it was ¡°nothing but juice.¡±
7. Man bites pan vendor¡¯s ear and lip after not getting one for free.
Even the shittiest of B-grade films cannot come up with something as weird as this. A man from Lucknow visited a pan shop at ten in the night and demanded that the shopkeeper give him a free pan. After the vendor refused, the man who was intoxicated at the time, threw a stone at him followed by biting his left ear and lower lip. These people are in serious need of help.
8. Snake attacks man. Man bites him into three pieces.
This one is brought to you by UP¡¯s Etah district where a man bit a snake into three pieces after the reptile entered his house and attacked him. The man was then rushed to the hospital since the snake had already bitten him. The man¡¯s father claimed that his son was drunk at the time of this mad incident.
9. Thieves enter the house to steal jewellery and cash. End up feasting on Biryani too!
Not just the normal citizens but even the criminals of Uttar Pradesh have a quirky sense of doing their ¡®job¡¯. A group of men barged into a house in Aligarh and tied up the family with ropes and later on feasted on Eid biryani along with curd and milk before fleeing away with Rs 2.5 lakh worth of jewellery, and Rs 32,000 in cash.
10. Men break into a beer shop. Party first before running away with more bottles.
A bunch of men broke into a liquor store in Kotwali to steal, but ended up partying inside the shop by drinking from the bottles and cans for hours. They ended their party by stealing 26 crates of beer. Even then, they weren¡¯t done with their shenanigans and went on to rob the chambers of five lawyers.
11. Bike-borne thieves steal 50 kg onions from a rickshaw-puller.
The soaring prices of onions made people desperate but this incident is a little (read: a lot) away from ways that are ¡®acceptable¡¯ and also, legal. Two miscreants stole 50 kg of onions from a rickshaw-puller in UP¡¯s Gorakhpur district.
12. Newly-wed cop asks for a 30-day leave for ¡®family development¡¯.
We¡¯ve all asked our bosses to grant us leaves for absolutely bizarre reasons. We¡¯ve killed relatives, made our friends get into accidents or just faked explosive diarrhea in order to get out of work. However, this newly-wed cop from Mahoba Kotwali police station asked for a 30-day leave so he could work on his ¡®family development¡¯. This isn¡¯t even the weirdest part. He was granted a leave for 45 days instead of the actual 30 he had asked for.
13. School principal asks students to cheat, bribe invigilators.
Teachers are supposed to teach us ethical and moral values but instead, in UP's Mau district, a principal of a private school 'briefed' his students on how to cheat from the students sitting in front of them as well as behind them. He also advised them to put a Rs 100 note in their answer sheets to bribe the teacher who will be checking their exams. A student secretly recorded the speech and the principal has been arrested.
