A picture of a liquor bill amounting to Rs 52,841 has gone viral on the internet as netizens expressed severe disbelief. Liquor worth Rs 52,841 was purchased from a shop named Vanilla Spirit Zone in Bengaluru. Another liquor receipt amounting to Rs 95, 347 also went viral on Twitter as it was billed in a wine shop in Bengaluru as well.
Soon after the government allowed liquor stores to start sales, thousands of impatient tipplers thronged shops and serpentine queues were seen in stores across India. People were seen jostling in lines and blatantly defying social distancing to get their alcohol fix.
Many went on an alcohol hoarding spree and bills of the same are going viral online. A picture of a liquor bill amounting to Rs 52,841 has gone viral on the Internet and people are in disbelief.
Liquor worth Rs 52,841 was purchased from a shop named Vanilla Spirit Zone in Bengaluru. The bill's picture has been doing the rounds of the Internet since Monday evening. Abhishek Baadkar, a Twitter user, shared a picture of the bill, saying, "Someone spent his month's salary today."
The Ministry of Home Affairs allowed a number of relaxations for the third leg of the lockdown, with a simple caveat of strict social distancing while going out and availing those services. One of the relaxations also included the opening of liquor shops for a certain amount of time in the day.

Another liquor receipt amounting to Rs 95,347 also went viral on Twitter - it was billed in a wine shop in Bengaluru as well. The name of the store wasn't visible on the bill.

According to CNBCTV report, Karnataka cashed in revenues of Rs 45 crore from liquor sales on May 4, as the state opened standalone liquor stores, in keeping with MHA guidelines. According to the Excise Department, around 3.9 lakh litre of beer and 8.5 lakh litre of Indian-made foreign liquor were sold on day one of the restrictions being lifted.

The state Excise Department has allowed retail liquor outlets, the Karnataka State Beverage Corporations Limited (KSBCL) and Mysore Sales International Ltd depots to sell liquor outside containment zones from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm starting May 4. State Excise Minister, H Nagesh, had recently said that state is bearing a loss of Rs 60 crore per day because of the closure of liquor shops due to the lockdown.
In Delhi, new rules have been imposed, a day after the chaos that ensued across the national capital. According to an HT report, Delhi government imposed a ¡°special corona fee¡± of 70% of the MRP on all categories of liquor that will be sold in the city with effect from Tuesday.
The fee was approved by Delhi¡¯s Lieutenant Governor, Anil Baijal, and a notification was later issued by the Delhi government¡¯s finance department. The fee would apply at '70% of the maximum retail price of all categories of liquor sold through written licences for consumption off the premises', read the order.
