A civil court in Ras Al Khaimah has jailed a wife after she read her husband¡¯s text messages. The woman was also ordered to pay AED 8,100 (Rs 1.64 lakh) in compensation for violating her husband¡¯s privacy.
The decision was taken after she was found guilty of snooping on his phone and sharing private conversations between him and his first wife with his daughter, Khaleej Times reported.
The second wife was found guilty of secretly accessing emails and sharing private texts. This breach in privacy led to conflicts between the husband and his first wife, which ultimately led to their divorce.
The man demanded AED 25,000 (Rs 5 lakh) from his second wife for suffering financial losses due to the marital dispute and losses of travel expenses, shipping expenses for his belongings, outstanding dowry dues, being sacked from work as a result of the marriage drama and other legal expenses.
However, the court refused to grant the husband compensation for the aforementioned material damages.
The court though did order the defendant to reimburse the plaintiff¡¯s legal expenses of AED 2,100 (Rs 42,000) along with a compensation of AED 8,100 (Rs 1.64 lakh) and one month of jail time.
