Sad Reality Of Workplace! Woman Was Seen Texting Her Boss About Her Absence While She Was In Labour
The instance has been inundated with comments, with many saying it highlighted the darkest side of modern-day work culture.
When they say that modern workplaces are inhuman, they aren't really kidding. Point in case, a woman had to text her boss about her absence from office while she was literally in labour.
The expectant mother can be seen in a hospital bed crafting a message to her boss. She then reads out the text to her partner for approval. "I am in labour. I just got admitted to the hospital - smiley face. Would it be OK if my mom or brother picked up my paycheck tomorrow - question mark," she says.
To this message, her husband replies: "Perfect."
Of course, we all have taken help from our partners while framing difficult mail or texts but having to do that while in labour is just crazy. Everyone knows how distractions, distressing information, and things that trigger anxiety should be eliminated during labour as they can adversely affect childbirth.
But this woman seemed far from relaxed.
The woman in the video was identified as Marissa Peirce, who reportedly works at a drive-thru coffee shop. The video was filmed last July when she gave birth to her first child.
Marissa spoke to Buzzfeed and said, "I went into labour at 2 a.m. on a day that I was scheduled to work at 10 a.m. I was overthinking this text message to my boss mainly because I have anxiety. I was a week and a half from my due date, so I was a little early for a first-time mom and no one really expected me to go into labour."
She even said how she never got any paternity leave after giving birth, "I empathize with all of the commenters talking about their lack of parental leave. I am extremely disappointed in the United States¡¯ lack of maternity and paternity leave. Most people that I know worked up until they went into labour, as I did. I know people who have gone back to work just weeks after having children. I was unfortunately offered no maternity leave and my partner was offered no paternity leave. He went to work less than 24 hours after we came home from the hospital.
People on the internet were extremely sad to see know this and dissed the modern work culture.
One person commented: "I see why the baby has to be there, but why do you?"
Another said: "I understand but next time please do not let us know last minute."
A third added: "I'm in labour but have my phone if you need me for anything urgent. Hope that's OK!"
Truly saddening.
