Bleeding Billionaires: Elon Musk & Bill Gates Among World's Richest To Have Lost More Than $200Bn In 2022

From Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos To Bill Gates. Many of the world¡¯s richest and biggest billionaires have lost more than $200 billion in these first few months of 2022. And we aren't even halfway through the year!

Amid the stock market bloodbaths and the tiff with Twitter over the $44 billion deal, the world¡¯s richest person Elon Musk has alone lost $58.5 billion in 2022, as per Bloomberg Billionaire Index.

But despite this heavy downfall, Tesla CEO Musk still remains at the top of that list with a $212 billion net worth.

Next on the list is Amazon founder Jeff Bezos whose current net worth of $131 billion is nearly $90 billion less than Musk. Bezos has lost $61.4 billion to date this year, as per the index. Amazon shares have lost almost 35% so far this year, taking a hit from last month¡¯s first reported a quarterly loss in seven years, as per a report in Marketwatch.

The third-richest person in the world is Louis Vuitton¡¯s CEO Bernard Arnault, whose net worth has fallen by $52.5 billion this year and currently sits at $126 Billion.

Microsoft¡¯s co-founder Bill Gates is also not an exception here. The fourth richest person in the world has lost $20,7 billion this year, with his current net worth being $117 Billion as per Bloomberg Billionaire Index.

Google¡¯s Larry Page and Sergey Brin have lost nearly $27 billion each this year to date.

As per the index, 10th placed Steve Ballmer, who served as Microsoft CEO from 2000 to 2014, to has lost over $15 billion since 2022 began.

The Exceptions

However, just like in January 2022 when many of the richest had lost billions of dollars but Warren Buffett didn't, the 91-year-old Berkshire Hathaway CEO has been amongst the exceptions this time as well.

The world¡¯s fifth-richest person Buffett has in fact added $1.1 billion this year, taking his net worth to $110 Billion as per Bloomberg Billionaire Index.

Other exceptions besides Buffett, among the top 10 billionaires, include India¡¯s Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani, both of whom have added $27.8 billion and $692 million respectively to their net worth this year till now.

Gautam Adani¡¯s net worth sits at $104 billion whereas Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has a net worth of $90.7 billion, as per Bloomberg Billionaire Index.
