TCS, Infosys & HCL Among Companies Hiring Engineers Displaced Due To Ukraine-Russia War

India¡¯s largest IT companies- Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys and HCL Technologies are hiring engineers who have been displaced due to the war in Ukraine and seeking shelter in nearby European cities, as per an ET report.

These three IT giants are amongst other companies including gaming startups and mid-tier Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) firms hiring such engineers.

TCS is looking to absorb the war-hit Ukrainian talent at its centres in cities like Budapest, while Infosys said it had launched a programme to skill up to 25,000 such people and welcome such talent to their Poland centre, the report stated.

HCL, on the other hand, said it had set up camps in its Poland and Romanian centres for engineers to ¡°walk in¡± and be employed.

The 50,000-strong Ukrainian tech community ranks among the most sought-after talent in Europe, with its strong focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) skills, robust startup ecosystems and a veritable spawn of global companies including the $13 billion Grammarly, among others, experts said, as per ET report.

TCS, which is India¡¯s largest software services firm by revenue, is exploring ways to support people from Ukraine because the depth of technical knowledge is very high in these regions, said a TCS source.

¡°We are also exploring how we can increase capacity in centres like Budapest (Hungary) as we are seeing a lot of people from Ukraine being absorbed across these neighbouring regions,¡± the TCS source reportedly said.

TCS has had large clients shutting down their operations in Russia and is now looking for talent elsewhere, the source added.

Bengaluru-based Infosys has initiated a programme to skill displaced technology professionals in the region.

¡°We are supporting the skilling of any of the individuals impacted, up to 25,000 people from Ukraine,¡± Salil Parekh, CEO of Infosys, reportedly told ET last week. He added ¡°We are welcoming any of these talented individuals¡­ We are more than open to welcome any and all of them into our centres in Poland.¡±

Although Indian IT companies are looking at a strong demand pipeline, they are also facing record attrition levels, with TCS and Infosys reporting high attrition rates of 17.4% and 27.7%, respectively, in January-March 2022 period.
