Well, in Kerala, the government recently announced jackfruit as their official fruit to promote ¡®Kerala Jackfruit¡¯ as a brand across Indian and overseas markets.

Agriculture Minister V S Sunil said that doing so will help highlight the fruit's organic and nutritious qualities. Also, it will help the fruit's production and sale, and also aid in increasing its value-added products.
Kerala produces nearly 32 crore jackfruit. However, 30 percent of it goes to waste. Now that it's Kerala's official fruit, it's expected to generate a total revenue of Rs. 15,000 crore, through the sale of the fruit and related products.

The state is also planning to distribute jackfruit saplings among the public so that they can grow in their gardens to help expand its cultivation.

However, this isn't the first thing Kerala has declared 'official' for itself. The elephant is the state animal of Kerala, the ¡®great hornbill¡¯ is the official bird, the ¡®kanikkonna¡¯ is the official flower. Recently, Kerala declared pearl spot or ¡®karimeen¡¯ as its official fish.
