Doordarshan National took to Twitter to announce the return of the show 'Ramayan' once again. The news coincided with the festive atmosphere following the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
The announcement of the show's comeback on TV comes nearly a week after the inauguration of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple and the consecration of the Ram Lalla idol in a grand ceremony, also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22.
The show was initially aired in 1987.
Originally broadcast on DD National from January 25, 1987, to July 31, 1988, the series achieved unprecedented viewership, reaching 82 percent and establishing itself as the most-watched television series globally at the time.
The popular show is adapted from the ancient Indian Sanskrit epic Ramayana, which was meticulously crafted, written, and directed by Ramanand Sagar.
It showcased actors Arun Govil as Lord Rama, Dipika Chikhlia as Sita, Sunil Lahri as Lakshmana, the late Dara Singh as Lord Hanuman, and the late Arvind Trivedi as Ravana, with narration by Ashok Kumar and Ramanand Sagar himself.
Fun Fact: Doordarshan also reintroduced Ramayan to entertain the audience at home amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

The entire cast, during media interviews, openly shared their joy and expressed deep gratitude for the profound privilege of being a part of this grand and significant event.
