‘They’re More Indians Than Indians’: Shark Tank’s Anupam Mittal Wooed By American Girls’ Hindi

Shark Tank India 2 has begun and it's already the trending talk of the town. From ideas that are out of the box to sharks who are more involved, we wonder how soon this season will surpass the last one. In one of the latest stints, two American sisters were the episode's highlight and left shark Anupam Mittal impressed.

Entrepreneurs Ariella Blank and Rebekah Sood who came with their health-based Kombucha drink initially started pitching in English but later shifted to Hindi.

After hearing them speak, Anupam Mittal said, “You actually spoke in Hindi, I had just joked because after seeing you I didn’t think that you would be able to speak.” The girls insisted that they can speak Hindi well. At this point, Aman Gupta said, “I thought that I had entered Shark Tank US.”

Rebekah also shared her journey from America to India. She said, “My family came to India in 1992 from America. My father is a mechanical engineering professor and was working at IIT Kanpur. We loved India and Indians and we settled here. Both our parents are American. Meri sister made in India hamari Kombucha ki tarah.”

In her last line sharks broke into laughter and Anupam said, “You can express your humour in Hindi. You have mastered the language. So cute.” Vineeta Singh revealed that she saw the packaging of the Kombucha drink on Instagram and was impressed. The two non-Indian sisters studied in Mussoorie and did college in the US. When Peyush Bansal asked, “What did you do next?” Rebekah said, “We then entered Zindagi ki school.”

Although Aman, Peyush and Namita skipped investing, Anupam made them an offer— Rs 75 lakh for 20% equity (valuation Rs 3.75 crores). Vineeta Singh bid for Rs 30 lakhs for 10% equity and Rs 45 lakh debt @ 12% interest (Valuation Rs 3 cr). The sisters skipped Vineeta’s offer and sent a counter to Anupam: Rs 75 lakh for 8% equity (valuation Rs 9.38 cr). However, Anupam didn’t settle and the American sisters had to leave without a deal.

As they were leaving Anupam told them, “I wish you all the best and let me tell you, you are more Indian than Indians.

Anupam also took to Twitter and shared the kind of response season 2 is getting and wrote, “Just 2 episodes & the chatter around @sharktankindia has just blown me away. Loads of love & criticism too - ‘if u r never criticised u may not be doing much that makes a difference’ - so keep the bouquets AND the brickbats coming, mazaa aa raha hai.”
