Balkaur Singh, father of the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, has made startling accusations against the Punjab government, alleging harassment over the birth of his newborn son at the age of 60, along with his 58-year-old wife Charan Kaur, through IVF.
Singh took to social media, expressing distress over government officials questioning the legality of his newborn son.
He stated that officials were demanding proof of the child's legality, despite following all legal procedures for the IVF process.
In a video posted on Instagram, Singh appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to allow the mother and child to complete their treatments before complying with any government inquiries.
He assured them that all necessary documents would be provided to address their concerns.
Legal Context: The case raises questions regarding age restrictions outlined in the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act of 2021, which imposes limits on IVF eligibility. Women aged 21¨C50 and men aged 21¨C55 are permitted under the Act.
Singh had initially announced the birth of his son, Shubhdeep, on March 17, sharing a heartfelt video capturing the emotional moment of the parents welcoming their newborn.
Sidhu Moosewala, a prominent Punjabi singer, was tragically killed at the age of 28 on May 29, 2022.
The attack was claimed by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
