The head of a local women's rights NGO was attacked late on Friday when she was returning home from the office in her car. One of the assailants managed to flee after snatching her gold chain but she grabbed the other and got him arrested with the help of passersby.

Mahi Sharma alias Mamta (33) fought the assailants for around 10 minutes even after getting injured. An FIR has been registered at Sector 9A police station, and police are now conducting raids to nab the absconding accused. According to the police complaint filed by Sharma, she was returning from her Sector 10 boutique to her home in Sector 9 Gurgaon around 9.30 pm when she was attacked.
"They rammed their auto into my car (a Swift Dzire) near the government college in Sector 9. As I stopped to look at the damage, the duo pounced on me and molested me. They hit me in my mouth. One of them pushed me to ground and snatched my chain and fled.

The other man tried to drag me to a nearby shanty. I mustered my strength and grabbed him and raised an alarm. Then some people reached and helped me in holding the goon and call the police," Sharma recounted. "I saved myself with what I had learned in my self-defence class," she told TOI.
On the basis of her complaint, an FIR was registered against the two accused under sections 323 (causing hurt), 354A (molestation), 341 (wrongful confinement), 379B (snatching and use of force), 427 (causing damage) of IPC at Sector 9 A police station.

"The accused are auto drivers. We have arrested Vipin, one of accused, a resident of Vishwakarma colony. His associate, Paravatha, is still absconding with his auto. We are conducting raids to nab the accused and are questioning Vipin," said ASI Ashok Kumar, the investigating officer.
