Gurugram Police have arrested a man for allegedly killing his wife and chopping her body and discarding them in parts of the city.
According to the police, Jitender, a resident of Gandhi Nagar, who was living on rent in Manesar was arrested in connection with the murder of his wife Sonia Sharma.
Police said that they launched a probe after a half-burnt torso of an unidentified woman was found in a village in Manesar on April 21.
Umed Singh a resident of the village had informed the police that he found the mutilated body in a room built on his farm along the road leading from the Pachgaon Chowk to Kasan village.
In the next two days, more body parts including both the chopped hands and her head were recovered from the Kherki Daula area.
The investigation led police to a 34-year-old Jitender, a former navy cook and the woman's husband, who later confessed to killing her over an illicit affair with another woman.
"During the search of the room where the torso was found, police also found a polythene bag bearing the name of a Vishakhapatnam-based company. On enquiry, the vendor of the company informed us that they supply that type of polythene bag to the Indian Navy," Vijay Pratap Singh, DCP, Crime, said.
Following the lead, police began searching records for missing person reports and found that a man named Jitender had reported his wife, Sonia Sharma, missing on April 21.
They found that Jitender, now a suspect, worked as a navy cook and had taken retirement in 2022.
"Jitender was seen in CCTV footage carrying a fully-packed trolley bag and backpack on a bike, and returning with a deflated bag. He was apprehended and during interrogation, he confessed to the murder of his wife and was arrested," Singh said.
According to police, Jitender revealed that he had killed his wife, with whom he has an eight-year-old because she had got to know about his extramarital affair.
He also revealed that he had secretly married the other woman.
"The accused's wife came to know about his affair which led to a dispute between them. To get rid of the situation, he decided to kill his wife. The accused first strangled her to death and later chopped her body into multiple pieces and packed them in polythene bags.
"He decided to dispose of the body parts in different places in Gurugram so that the body couldn't be identified. He tried to dispose of the torso in a room built in the fields in Kukdola village in the Manesar area on April 21," said Vijay Pratap Singh, DCP (crime).
The accused disposed of the other body parts in Manesar's forest area, Kherki-Daula, and the head in a pond near KMP road.
