In a shocking turn of events police in Indore, Madhya Pradesh has said that they have decided to book a girl for allegedly filing a false case of gang rape, kidnapping and attempted murder.
The development came on Thursday after an investigation revealed that the claims made by the 19-year-old girl were false.
Harinarayan Chari Mishra, IGP, Indore, said "A case will be filed under section 182/211 against the girl after man investigation by the police revealed that these claims were false."
"The footage of more than 150 CCTV was checked and scientific evidence along the railway tracks from Pardeshipura to Banganga was collected during the probe. The police found that the claims made by the girl were baseless and inconsistent," he said.
On Tuesday, the girl, a college student had claimed that she was kidnapped by two men, one of them whom she was in a relationship with previously.
She had claimed that the duo took her to a flat where three more men were waiting.
According to her complaint, the five men gang-raped her and when she threatened to have them arrested, the accused stabbed her.
They then took her to a railway track, where she was left to die, but she miraculously survived.
But according to the police, none of these ever took place and the stab wound she has sustained were self-inflicted.
According to the police, the motive of her complaint is still unknown and they will question her once she is discharged from the hospital where she is recovering from the injuries.
It was earlier revealed that the two were in a relationship and used to live on rent in the same apartment building.
The incident comes at a time when Madhya Pradesh has been in the news for a number of crimes against women.
On Thursday, a 17-year-old girl who had accused an elderly newspaper owner of raping her died in a Bhopal hospital, allegedly taking an overdose of sleeping pills.
The girl was admitted to Government Hamidia Hospital here on Monday night after she consumed sleeping pills at a shelter home in the Madhya Pradesh capital.
Her condition was critical and she died on Wednesday night, the hospital's superintendent, Dr I D Chourasia, said.
In July last year, a case was registered against the accused Pyare Miya, who runs a local newspaper, of raping five minor girls on several occasions.
The five victims had been kept in a government shelter home in view of the security.
