The second phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 is?currently?underway in 88 constituencies spread across 13 states. Eight seats in Uttar Pradesh -- ?Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh?and?Mathura are among those going to the polling booths on Friday.
In Gautam Buddh Nagar, which comprises Noida, Dadri, Jewar, Khurja?and?Sikandrabad?there are more than 26.75 lakh registered?voters and 1,852 booths. Out of this?Noida?alone has 7,82,872?voters, but it has traditionally seen a lesser turnout in polls.
Keeping this in mind, factories and industries in Noida and Greater Noida have been directed to give paid holidays to workers on polling day to enable them to cast their votes.
To encourage more people to exercise their franchise, some businesses in Noida are offering discounts on their products to voters.
Around two dozen restaurants in the constituency have announced a "Democracy Discount" to?voters?who show proof of voting can avail up to 20?per cent?discount at these restaurants on April 26 and 27.
This includes Desi Vibes, Kaffiiaa, I Sacked Newton, De Valentino Cafe,?Noida?SOCIAL, Getafix, Osteria, Chica Loca, F Bar?Noida, Xero Courtyard Gardens Galleria, Dirty Rabbit, Baby Dragon, Trippy Tequila, Cafe Delhi heights, Ching Singh, Paso?Noida, Moire Cafe & Lounge, The Beer Cafe, Sky by Swagath, Imperfecto and The Patiala?Kkitchen.
"The idea is to encourage citizens for more voter turnout," Varun Khera, the Uttar Pradesh unit head of NRAI, told PTI.
Discount on health check ups?
Felix Hospitals in?Noida's Sector 137 is offering a 100?per cent?discount on full body?check?up?to?voters?under its initiative "Vote for Healthy India".
"Citizens can come to the hospital and show the voting ink mark on their fingers to avail full body check-up worth Rs 6,500 free of cost. The offer will be available from April 26 to 30," Felix Hospitals CEO and Chairman Dr. D K Gupta told PTI.
