The Indian Premier League (IPL) will indeed be held "entirely" within India,?BCCI Secretary Jay Shah?has assured, addressing cricket enthusiasts nationwide. As reported by CNBC-TV18, Shah affirmed, ¡°Complete IPL will happen in India only. BCCI is working on the full schedule and will make it public soon."
Shah emphasized the close collaboration between BCCI, government, and security agencies, ensuring alignment with all necessary protocols and advisories, particularly regarding the forthcoming general elections.?
"The Board will review and address any issues about the schedule of the first two weeks. Subsequently, the BCCI will work in tandem with local authorities to finalize the schedule for the remainder of the season, taking into account the polling dates," stated the BCCI Secretary, echoing the aforementioned report.
This announcement follows a recent report by the Times of India hinting at the possibility of relocating the tournament to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with Dubai highlighted as a favoured venue.
The Election Commission of India has unveiled the dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, coinciding with the Indian Premier League (IPL) scheduled for the same period.
This year's general elections are slated to span seven phases, commencing on April 19, with results expected by June 4. Meanwhile, the IPL season is set to commence on March 22 at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium.
In February, the BCCI had announced the schedule only for the first two weeks of IPL 2024. Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will host Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Chepauk on 22 March.?
The schedule for matches till 7 April have been announced. The remaining fixtures for IPL 2024 is expected to be announced soon.
Earlier on Saturday, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal also clarified saying that the IPL was stating in India. 'The entire IPL will be held in India. We will be formulating the remaining schedule very soon and announce it,' Dhumal had told PTI.
Notably, in 2009, due to the general elections, the IPL was completely held in South Africa.?
The first phase of the 2014 edition was held in UAE before returning to India for the second phase. The 2019 IPL, however, was held in India throughout despite the elections.
In the previous season, CSK emerged victorious against Gujarat Titans in the final, securing their fifth IPL title and equalling the record of the most successful teams in the league's history alongside the Mumbai Indians.
