A private tutor in Dubai, working with some of the city's wealthiest families, recently disclosed startling insights into the extravagant lifestyles of elite children. Speaking anonymously to Business Insider, the tutor revealed instances of extreme wealth shaping the behaviour of young students, a stark contrast to their seemingly privileged lives.
Recalling an incident, the tutor shared that he was once paid a staggering Rs 2.5 lakh to complete a child's homework. "One of his students was instructed by his brother to 'not bother doing any work' because 'Dad would sort it out.' He then paid me $3,000 (about Rs 2.5 lakh) to do his homework for him," disclosed the tutor, highlighting the normalization of such practices in Dubai's affluent circles.
Having relocated to Dubai in 2020 to work for an international tutoring agency, the tutor has catered to the offspring of millionaires and billionaires deriving wealth from diverse sectors including oil businesses and tech startups.
Describing the opulent living standards, the tutor mentioned teaching a family residing in one of Dubai's most lavish apartments, featuring amenities like an art room, massage room, gym, and cinema across five floors. "Families like these often had dozens of staff, including security, maids, drivers, cooks, nannies, and, of course, tutors," the tutor elaborated.
Despite minimal interaction with parents, the tutor noted their amiable demeanour when encountered. Communication primarily occurred through nannies, who attended to the children's needs promptly, highlighting the children's potential isolation from their parents.
Sharing intriguing anecdotes from his tenure, the tutor recounted a seven-year-old student's request to see a real owl while studying biology. "The next time I went to the house, an owl was perched on the kitchen counter," the tutor disclosed, showcasing the extent of resources available.
Additionally, the tutor mentioned a pupil with a personalized classroom surpassing typical school standards. During an arts and crafts session, when urged to tidy up, the child retorted, "Absolutely not. I do not pay you to clean. I pay her to clean," pointing at the nanny.
