India's run in the Greco-Roman category of the Asian Wrestling Championship is at an end. In the span of two days we have finished with 5 medals and that is a haul to be proud of. Yes, while we had just one gold and 4 bronze, those bronze could have been converted into silver medals or even gold ones. Nonetheless it was a nice bag of medals to show our skill on home soil.?
It was Sunil Kumar who set the trend when he defeated Azat Salidinov in the 87kg final to clinch the gold. It was actually a historic moment for Indian wrestling because it was our first Greco-Roman medal at the Asian Championships after 27 years. Now that is something to be proud of.?
Arjun Halakurki added to our tally the same day when he took home the bronze in the 55kg. But it was only a sign of things to come.?
The next day we got three more bronze medals in our kitty. They came from Ashu, Hardeep and Aditya Kundu.?
Ashu competed in the 67kg category beat Muhammad Alhasan 8-1 and then went down to Makhmud Bakhshilloev on technical points after the semifinal was tied 4-4. Or else at least a silver was guaranteed.?
Aditya finished his game in 2 minutes by crushing Nao Kusaka 8-0 in the 72kg category.?
With the Olympics approaching, this is a good sign. One hopes are wrestlers put in an even better performance in Tokyo. ?
