In Neptune, Florida, beachgoers were met with a curious sight as a vast expanse of an unusual "seaweed" blanketed the shore. However, the Neptune Beach Police Department issued a cautionary warning, revealing that the mysterious "seaweed" was, in fact, a significant quantity of marijuana.
According to their assessment, it seemed that a substantial stash of marijuana might have ruptured at sea, scattering its contents before eventually washing up on the beach along Florida Blvd.?
As per a statement given to WJXT-TV, one beachgoer, and his mother initially mistook the unusual substance for sargassum.
"I did pick it up and smell it to see what it smelled like," Zach West said. "It was weed. It¡¯s kind of crazy."
In a Facebook post, police shared: "Before anyone starts thinking about coming out and turning this discovery into your treasure hunt, we would advise against it."
"After floating in the ocean for some time, the marijuana has quickly begun to degrade and rot."
While the police refrained from precisely estimating the total marijuana quantity that washed ashore, the spread of the green haul was remarkable, stretching a considerable distance along the beach's tide line.??
As curious bystanders and beachgoers attempted to make sense of the peculiar find, Bryan Crews, one of the witnesses, offered his speculative estimate.?
Based on what he had seen on television shows, Crews suggested that the accumulated marijuana might have amounted to a weight of around five to ten pounds.
