After Dahmer and Indian Predator Seasons 1 and 2, it appears that the streaming platform has decided to enjoy the genre of crime drama that is based on true events.

It's safe to assume that the crime genre has brought in a lot of viewers for the OTT giant, whether it be with shows like the Delhi Crime series which was based on a real incident on the 2012 Delhi gang rape and murder, commonly known as the Nirbhaya case, involved a rape and fatal assault that occurred on 16 December 2012 in Munirka, a neighbourhood in South West Delhi, or The Case, which is based on a study abroad trip in Perugia, Italy, where Amanda Knox, an American college student, was charged with brutally killing her roommate, Meredith Kercher. Prior to being cleared in 2015 by Italy's top court, Knox gained notoriety in the media and spent over four years in an Italian prison. Knox finally has a chance to speak out in her own words thanks to this insightful documentary.

"Murder in the Courtroom," the third instalment of the Indian Predator documentary series, was released after two successful seasons. Like the preceding instalments, the documentary is directed by Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni and is based on a genuine story.

Quick Review

Every iteration of Indian Predator is an improvement. As the thrill factor in criminal drama is increased by the real factor, true happenings have added charm for the viewers. Despite the fact that the past seasons are also based on genuine stories, this instalment is the best one so far.

It tells the true story of the lynching of criminal Akku Yadav by a crowd of hundreds inside a courthouse in the third season.

The show begins with a courtroom scene in which about 50-200 ladies attack Akku Yadav and continue to stab him in their wrath till every body part is dismantled. All the women abruptly vanish from the court after this terrible murder. Even the police officers are left in the dark there. The police quickly learn from their inquiry that they were all Kasturba Nagar-based Dalit women. Five women are then taken into custody by the police. As a result, the other women make it to the police station and assist in freeing those 5 women.

Interviews with Yadav's family lawyer, friends, journalists, and the man chained to Yadav as he was being killed with a hacksaw are also included. Women speak out the loudest, many of whom Akku is accused of harassing and raping. The women of Kasturba Nagar are gloriously unrestrained and feisty in this undoubtedly documentary gem.

After the women were freed, each household prepared meat to commemorate Akku Yadav's passing. However, you might wonder why the women were so enraged. Well, for the unversed, the women of Kasturba Nagar gave the rapist Akku Yadav the code name "Madam," and whenever someone saw him, they would use it to warn the women so that they wouldn't become his prey¡ªhis youngest victim was a 10-year-old girl. He was charged with murder, extortion, and assault in addition to rape. He turned himself into the police just days before his horrifying death, claiming that his life was in danger.

Kasturba Nagar Women Turned Into Kali Maa?

We refer to the women of Kasturba Nagar as Kali Maa purely because the goddess and the Divine Mother is the Hindu goddess of time, creation, preservation, and destruction. It wouldn't be incorrect to state that women can transform from "Durga" to "Kali Maa." She is the most merciful goddess of them all, despite how terrifying she may seem. God, as the saying goes, helps those who assist themselves, and this instalment provides an illustration of that.

In order to find a different story, Murder in a Courtroom is more inquisitive and meticulous than its predecessors. However, the subject's inherent characteristics¡ªgruesome, sensational, unprecedented, with undertones of class, caste, and the honour of women¡ªpush viewers in a particular path.

The interviews with victims and those suspected of killing Akku, together with theatrical recreations of real-life incidents. The show succeeds at keeping viewers interested. This is true even though the filmmakers make no attempt to exploit the subject by using graphic violence. While being limited, the recreations nonetheless manage to add just the perfect amount of drama and suspense.

Who Is Akku Yadav?

An Indian gangster, robber, house invader, kidnapper, serial rapist, extortionist, and serial killer by the name of Bharat Kalicharan popularly known as Akku Yadav. Yadav was raised in the Kasturba Nagar slum, which is located outside of Nagpur, Maharashtra, the nation's capital.

Police records claim that in addition to minor offenders, two competing gangs were also housed in the slum. Akku, a native of the area, had grown from being the milkman's kid to a neighbourhood danger. Vigilantism in Nagpur, according to Swati Mehta's true crime book Killing Justice: Vigilantism in Nagpur.

In accordance with Mehta's book, Yadav's first recorded offence was a 1991 gang rape. There is a rumour among slum dwellers that Yadav may have sexually attacked a lady in almost every other home in light of the more than three killings and 40 rapes. While extortion was the main source of cash for the Yadav group, they also frequently used kidnapping and finally rape to threaten or quiet their victims.

His crimes, however, lacked any pattern and instead had a casteist undercurrent because of many of his Dalit victims.

What transpired inside the courtroom?

Akku Yadav's Gruesome Death

An uprising broke out in the slum, and furious residents armed themselves with stones and sticks to start hitting Yadav's accomplices whenever they had the chance. Eventually, the criminals fled the ghetto and abandoned their leader.

On August 8, a mob even made an attempt to harm him as he was being escorted to the nearby district court. Yadav lived, but five days later he was scheduled to die. But on August 13, when there was a bail hearing, a large group of women attacked him with knives and stones before lynching him. He received a chilli pepper spray before having his penis amputated. Even though some of the women were imprisoned, all of them admitted culpability to the crime and were ultimately declared not guilty. Hundreds of women were part of the lynching, but the State CID gave a different narrative of what happened. Senior police sources indicate that four men carried out the lynching and that the women who took responsibility for it were merely shielding them. None of the women agreed with the police's version of events.
