Critics praised the performances, writing, production design, and score, calling it the best live-action video game adaptation.
The show began on an intriguing note, as the fourth episode lets viewers watch Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) travel to Wyoming in search of Tommy, Joel's brother (Gabriel Luna).
Ellie is seen pulling the trigger in the opening scene, and in contrast, the episode concludes with a joke about diarrhoea that not only made Elle and Joel laugh but also had the audience rolling on the floor.

Do you recall how many people said that Bella is too young to perform this role and won't be able to live up to expectations? With her excellent acting, comedic timing, and other skills, the actress has been proving everyone else incorrect. Let's be honest: It's difficult to subtly incorporate humour into tragic sequences, especially when they are emotionally compelling, yet the girl does it the best. Even in the fourth episode, she is shown in one scene conversing with Joel about a serious matter while gliding a joke into it oh-so smoothly.

The show takes place in a zombie-infested post-apocalyptic world. The fact that the show is based on a game is widely recognised.

Joel is woken in the middle of the night by Ellie who is being held at gunpoint by a young man. Joel then realises that a youngster wearing a drawn-on superhero mask is also holding a gun on him. As the credits begin to roll, a cover of "True Faith" by New Order can be heard. Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie in The Last of Us Part II, sings a rendition of the song based on Lotte Kestner's own cover.
Now, for those who are not familiar with the story, here¡¯s all you need to know before tuning in.
A pandemic caused by a widespread fungal infection strikes in 2003, turning its victims into ferocious attackers. The fungus begins to spread, and Joel leaves with Sarah. When a soldier attacks them, Sarah is slain, but Joel is kept alive by his brother Tommy. Twenty years later, with his accomplice Tess, Joel is still operating as a smuggler in the Boston quarantine area under the supervision of the Federal Disaster Response Agency (FEDRA). When Tommy's attempt to get in touch with them from his location in Wyoming fails, they try to purchase a car battery from a nearby dealer, but the battery is instead sold to the Fireflies, a rebel organisation opposed to FEDRA.
Ellie stabs the soldier after he examines them for infection and notices them leaving. Joel punches the soldier to death when he tries to shoot her.
Tess might be aware of her condition, but Ellie is adamant that she won't alter. To escape the pursuing FEDRA soldiers, they go into a biohazard area.
The nine-episode first season of the show centres on the first game in the illustrious PlayStation video game series from creator Naughty Dog. It has also been given a second season renewal.
Cast:
Joel is portrayed in the series by Pedro Pascal, and Ellie is played by Bella Ramsey. Along with Melanie Lynskey from Yellowjackets and Anna Torv from Fringe, Parks and Recreation actor Nick Offerman also joins.
Is there a need for you to play the game first?
Not at all! The first game, which was released in 2013, is recounted in the show, with some narratives and background information added.
