Jailed Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi Gives TV Interview, Not From Our Prison Says Punjab Police

The Punjab Prisons Department has claimed that an interview of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, aired by a news channel on Tuesday, was not shot inside any jail in the state.

Bishnoi, who was arrested in connection with the murder of Punjabi singer-politician Sidhu Moose Wala, is currently lodged in Bathinda jail in Punjab.

What Punjab Police said

¡°It has come to notice that a private TV news channel has aired an interview of prisoner Lawrence Bishnoi purportedly from inside a jail.

Rumours are doing rounds that the interview was recorded from inside Bathinda Jail. This is to clarify that the rumours are baseless and that this video is neither from Bathinda jail, where the prisoner is currently confined nor from any other jail in Punjab,¡± the Punjab Prisons Department said in a statement.

"It is further clarified that this prisoner is at present confined in the High-Security Zone of Bathinda Jail where strict surveillance is kept over his activities 24¡Á7," the statement added.

Bishnoi's interview from jail

In the 'interview', Bishnoi claimed that he had no involvement in the murder and that Goldie Brar killed Sidhu Moose Wala.

Bishnoi, who defended the murder, claimed that Moose Wala was shielding the people who killed Vicky Middukhera, who was very close to his gang.

Bishnoi further claimed that he was a nationalist and was against Khalistan and Pakistan.

Bishnoi wants Salman to apologise

Following Bishnoi's arrest last year in connection with the murder of Moose Wala, a plot by the gang to assassinate actor Salman Khan had also surfaced.

In the interview, Bishnoi said that his community was angry with the actor as he "humiliated" them.

The Bishnoi community has a close connection to blackbucks.

In 1998, Salman Khan was accused of hunting a blackbuck, a protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.

In the interview, Bishnoi demanded that the actor should apologise to the community.

Moose Wala's father demands CBI probe

Last week, Balkaur Singh, the slain singer's father, protested outside the Punjab Assembly and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the murder of his son.

"In the last 10 months, I went to Police and Administration several times. I was assured. But what's happening here is being done to brush under the carpet the murder of my child. Nothing is going in my favour. So, I had to come to Assembly," he said.

Moose Wala's father further said that he will sit outside the Assembly as long as the session continues as the probe is not being influenced but being ended.

I will sit here for as long as the session continues. It (investigation) is not being influenced but being ended. Where is the investigation even taking place? There's anger among people, but why is our government not listening?" said Singh.
