Lok Sabha Security Breach: Accused Were 'Upset With Unemployment, Wanted To Create Anarchy'

As the interrogation of the six accused in the Lok Sabha security breach incident continues, more details have emerged on how and why the group jumped into the well of the house with gas canisters.

According to the police, all the accused were unemployed and upset about being unable to find jobs.

Who are the accused?

The alleged mastermind, Lalit Jha, had briefly worked as a school teacher in Kolkata, while one of the men who entered the Lok Sabha with the canister, D Manoranjan, was an engineering graduate from Mysuru.

His accomplice, Sagar Sharma from Lucknow, was an e-rikshaw driver who seemed to have been frustrated by a lack of opportunities.

Sharma also worked in a flour mill in Bengaluru from 2018 to early 2020, until the lockdown, after which he returned to Lucknow.

"He read books about patriotism. He was a follower of Bhagat Singh...My daughter told me that he used to write in the diary," his mother, Rani Sharma, said.

Of the two people arrested from outside the Parliament building on Tuesday, Neelam had an M.Phil. and cleared the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) seven years ago. But the 37-year-old was unemployed and had participated in the farmers' agitation and the wrestler protest in Delhi.

Amol Shinde, who was arrested along with her, was frustrated that he was not able to get an Army or Police job.

The 25-year-old, who had studied up to Class 12, had participated in recruitment rallies in Nashik, Ratnagiri, New Delhi, and Assam without success.

What police said

Police said, "Jha disclosed that they wanted to create anarchy in the country so that they can compel the government to meet their demands.

The two men who entered the parliament were also carrying some pamphlets calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a "missing person" with a cash reward from a Swiss bank on offer.

They were planning to deliver these pamphlets to Modi himself, but he was not in the house that day.

Why police is looking into foreign links

While the police have not yet identified any political affiliation or the accused having links to any organisations, they are not ruling it out.

Police suspect the involvement of foreign funding due to how the accused did the planning and visited Delhi multiple times to do the recce of the act.

Police are also looking for the person who helped them design the shoes with cavities to hide canisters.

What Jha's family said

According to Shambhu Jha, the brother of the alleged mastermind, the family had last met him on December 10.

"He came with us to see us off at Sealdah station. The next day, he called us and said he was going to New Delhi for some personal work," he said.

Shambhu also asserted that no one knew about his activities.

"He was a calm and quiet kid since childhood and was very introvert. We knew he was involved with NGOs and, apart from being a private tutor, we are really shocked to see his images on television channels," he said.
