After a harrowing 14-month recovery journey following a life-threatening car accident, Rishabh Pant is gearing up to make a triumphant return to the cricket field. The wicketkeeper-batter, on the cusp of his comeback, admits to feeling a mix of excitement and nerves akin to a debutant.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) granted Pant clearance to participate in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), paving the way for his much-anticipated return to action. His team, the Delhi Capitals, is slated to kick off their IPL campaign against the Punjab Kings in Mohali on March 23.
Pant's road to recovery began in December 2022 when he was involved in a horrific car crash while en route to his hometown in Roorkee. Suffering from multiple injuries, including a fractured wrist and ankle, as well as undergoing ligament reconstruction surgery on his right knee, Pant's ordeal tested his resilience both physically and mentally.
Expressing his emotions ahead of his comeback, Pant remarked, "I am excited and nervous at the same time. It feels like I am going to make my debut again," in a statement released by the Delhi Capitals.
The 26-year-old endured an extensive rehabilitation regimen at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as part of his recovery process.
Reflecting on his journey, Pant expressed gratitude to his well-wishers, fans, the BCCI, and the NCA staff for their unwavering support. "To be able to play cricket again after everything I've been through is nothing short of a miracle," he acknowledged.
As he rejoins the Delhi Capitals pre-season camp, Pant eagerly anticipates his return to the IPL arena, a tournament he holds dear. "I am excited to return to Delhi Capitals and the IPL 每 a tournament I enjoy so much," he stated. Pant also expressed appreciation for the unwavering backing he received from the team owners and support staff.
