A Dalit man by the name of Sarvhit Pal Chamar has become an inspiration for many as a video of him describing why he named his home 'Chamar Bhawan' was posted on social media.
Caste has been a prominent social issue in our country for centuries, with some believing that their blood is purer than the rest. As absurd as it sounds, there are enough people feel their caste makes them superior.
However, conversations around the same are taking place now and with each passing day, we hear stories of people smashing these caste-based prejudice.
A Dalit man by the name of Sarvhit Pal Chamar, has become an inspiration for many as a video of him describing why he named his home 'Chamar Bhawan' was posted on social media.

In the two-minute-long clip, he is seen explaining why he chose to be proud of his caste identity instead of being ashamed of it like society tells him to.
He has named his house 'Chamar Bhawan' and in fact, his son named their WiFi the same thing.
While talking about why he decided to do so, he said that just like people from other religions and castes are respected in the community and are proud of their caste identities, Chamars should also be proud of their name.
He also gave an example of what the word Chamar could alternately mean in English.
"C is for Creative, H is for Honest, A is for Attractive, M is for Mastermind and R is for Responsible," Sarvhit said, adding that these were the very qualities the mystic poet Sant Ravi Das had.
Caste discrimination has made 'Chamar' a derogatory term, which was supposedly started by members of the so-called upper caste, who wanted to demean people they believed were below them. It eventually became a slang word to mock someone. However, Sarvhit wants to change that.
In the now viral video, he urges people with Chamar surname to embrace their identity and be proud of it. He said the reason he chose to display his surname on his house was that his name was his source of strength.
The video has touched the hearts of many who believe that caste-based discrimination should end and everyone should be considered equal.
