Why is it a bad idea to mix alcohol with Coca-Cola?

Most of us are aware that cola contains caffeine - a conventional 330ml can of cola contains approximately 34 milligrams of caffeine, while diet cola contains approximately 46mg - this is less than the 63mg typically found in a single shot of espresso.

However, it is vital to note that you are more likely to consume numerous shots of vodka and Cokes in a single session than shots of espresso. And for those who enjoy combining alcohol and coffee, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States has issued a warning.

How is it bad?

Caffeine can disguise the depressant effects of alcohol, according to the CDC: "The caffeine can mask the depressant effects of alcohol, making drinkers feel more alert than they would otherwise."

As a result, people may consume more alcohol and become more inebriated than they realize, raising the risk of alcohol-related injuries. It's not ideal.

Furthermore, a 2007 study conducted by The University of Manchester's Department of Postgraduate Medicine and Dentistry discovered that the bubbles in your drink can cause you to absorb alcohol faster.
