As per its discussion paper, as many as 24.82 crore people in India have moved out of multidimensional poverty in the last nine financial years, i.e., from 2013每14 to 2022每23.

As per its discussion paper, as many as 24.82 crore people in India have moved out of multidimensional poverty in the last nine financial years, i.e., from 2013每14 to 2022每23. This is according to NITI Aayog＊s report shared on the evening of January 15.

According to NITI Aayog, national multidimensional poverty measures simultaneous deprivations across three equally weighted dimensions of health, education, and standard of living that are represented by 12 sustainable development goals-aligned indicators.
These 12 parameters include:

Child and adolescent mortality
Maternal health
Years of schooling
School attendance
Cooking fuel
Sanitation
Drinking water
Electricity
Housing
Assets
Bank accounts

UP, Bihar & MP Saw Most People Moving Out Of Poverty
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh topped the list of states that registered the largest decline in poverty. At the state level, UP saw the most number of people escaping poverty, at 5.94 crore, followed by Bihar at 3.77 crore and MP at 2.30 crore.

Govt Aims To Bring Down Poverty From 11% To 1%
Speaking about the government＊s future vision, NITI Aayog＊s CEO, BVR Subrahmanyam, said, "The government has a goal to bring down multidimensional poverty to below 1%, and all efforts are being made in that direction.§ The report by the think tank also mentioned that India is all set to reach single-digit poverty levels during this year itself, i.e., 2024.
