An argument over not serving rasgulla at a wedding reception quickly turned into a brawl and resulted in the death of one person in Agra.
Four others also sustained injuries in the incident that happened on Wednesday night in the Etmadpur area of Uttar Pradesh's Agra.
According to reports, the wedding of Javed and Rashid, both brothers, was scheduled to take place in Vinayak Bhawan with the daughters of Usman.
After the wedding ceremony, when dinner was served, a dispute arose over rasgullas which, apparently, were in short supply.
The dispute turned into a major brawl and the guests from both sides took out knives and started stabbing each other.
Five persons were injured in the incident and taken to hospital where 22-year-old Sunny died during treatment. Other injured persons were discharged after first aid.
"Sunny who suffered serious injuries in the attack, was first sent to the Community Health Centre and then referred to Sarojini Naidu Medical College in Agra, where he died during treatment," Etmadpur Circle Officer Ravi Kumar Gupta said.
In 2018, a similar incident was reported from Vikrampur area Agra, where guests at a wedding reception fought over plates, resulting in the death of one person and four others getting injured.
Guests who arrived at the ceremony were served snacks and other eatables, but after some time, it was found that no plates were left to serve food to the invitees, which angered the people and led to a heated exchange of words.
Some people clashed, leaving five persons injured and one of them, identified as Vishal, succumbed to injuries while being taken to the hospital.
In 2019 a similar incident was reported from Telangana where the sides of the groom and the bride fought over the choice of biryani for the reception.
The bridegroom's family was expecting mutton to be served but only chicken was on the menu.
This did not go down well with them and the argument between the two sides soon turned into a free-for-all brawl.
