Boycott Effect? Taapsee Pannu & Anurag Kashyap's Dobaaraa Shows Cancelled Due To 2-3% Occupancy
Taapsee Pannu and Anurag Kashyap's Dobaaraa falls flat at the box office, shows cancelled, earns 72 lakhs because of low occupancy. Is it the boycott effect?
Ahead of the release of their film Dobaaraa, Taapsee Pannu and Anurag Kashyap seemingly made fun of the boycott trend, especially the campaign against AamirKhan's Laal Singh Chaddha, and jokingly asked people for a similar drive against their own movie. Was it a good joke?
Arrogance or joke?
What happened next was - #BocyottDobaaraa was trending on social media. People on Twitter said we will fulfill your demand after Pannu was quoted as saying - "we will feel out of place. Please boycott our film. I think we should be in the league of Laal Singh Chaddha."

Adding to this, Anurag Kashyap said, "Yes please, I want our film to trend on the boycott hashtag as well." Both of them asked, "I want to know if those people who call for a boycott are the ones who even watch films in theatres?"
Taapsee was labelled arrogant by many. A day before the release of her film, she took to social media to say, "We know we made a film we are proud of, I hope you give us a chance."
They¡¯re faking to be cool with the #BoycottBollywood but dying a million deaths internally. They were feeling left out & wanted to trend. Lo trend karte hai #BoycottDobaara . They are Rabid Hindu Haters. Anurag Kashyap is next level. Hypocrite Taapsee Pannu needs no introduction pic.twitter.com/Gtm3VBOvn6

Dobaaraa shows cancelled?
When the film was released on Friday, it opened on 215 screens with as low as two to three percent of occupancy. As a result, the theatres were empty. Was this the boycott effect?
#Dobaaraa is off to a DISASTROUS start at the box office, film is registering merely 2-3% occupancy while many early shows are getting canceled due to NO AUDIENCE..

The fact is - Laal Singh Chaddha also suffered because of boycott calls
Laal Singh Chaddha earned Rs 11.7 crore on the first day of its release. No other Aamir Khan film in last 20 years has had such a low opening. Even Thugs Of Hindostan minted Rs Rs 52 crores. Again, was it the boycott effect?

It's the new India
Arrogant actors & actresses that they are beneath our nation and India will surly rise.#Lalsinghchadda
On the other side, the discussions on Twitter about whether the boycott culture is right or wrong are going on full throttle. While some say that it's an individual right of a person to boycott, others say such campaigns violate Aamir Khan¡¯s freedom of expression.
Meanwhile, Dobaaraa is the official remake of the 2018 Spanish film, Mirage, that starred Alvaro Morte, the popular character Professor from Netflix¡¯s Money Heist.
